GET TO KNOW FASHION ILLUSTRATOR IVAN KASAJ
December 12, 2011
So when Ivan approached Stylistocrat about doing an illustration on Reginald Carson, it was like a dream.
Ivan studied applied arts and marketing communication, and finished his PhD. degree in Marketing Communication. His Bio reads like a who’s who, serving as a former ad agency art director, in Leo Burnett Bratislava, where he was their team leader and idea maker for their biggest clients winning several creative prizes all around the world.
His work, as a digital artist in the world of fashion is gratifying.
Stating, “When someone uses my artwork, as a profile, or header for their business, it is the same, is if they hangs my picture on his bedroom wall.”
With an increased positive feedback from the online community, Ivan’s work has become more and more motivating!, You can soon see this and many other Fashion Illustrations in Martin Dawber new book “Great Big Book of Fashion Illustration”, for Ivan this whole campaign has become “A dream come true!”
So even though Ivan is in Western Slovakia, we took the time to do a looooooooooooooooooooooong distance across the other side of the world interview with Ivan.
Check out what he said!
When and how did you get interested in illustration?
Illustration, drawing, and animation fascinated me from early childhood. I enjoyed watching animated cartoons, reading comic books and looking at kid’s illustrated books. It was a great passion of mine, which lead me to study at a high school for applied arts.
How did that lead you to fashion illustration?
My second passion was fashion, luxury stuff and men’s style. It was only a matter of time before I’ve decided to connect those two passions together and make it my job
What inspires you?
I get plenty of inspiration everywhere! I am really an open minded person, so everything I see and hear can be transformed into an inspiration.
But primary, I am very familiar with the men’s fashion blogging community. I suppose that I am a child of these days – I like browsing through the internet and finding interesting stuff.
Primary, I am focused on those tiny little details of making an average outfit look like a million dollars. My likes are: unconventional colors, patterns, bow ties, preppy look, tweed suits, brogue shoes, etc. I have way more inspiration than this interview has to hold
What are your thoughts on fashion and men’s style of the day?
That’s a hard question; because there are really huge differences between style in Europe, Asia, & the USA. I’m guessing maybe the connection is; that the men are becoming more creative and self-confident in the matter of style.
What “must item” do you believe every man must have?
That’s easy – a slim fit button down light blue long sleeve shirt, it goes perfect almost with anything!
What’s your favorite city and why?
I am truly in love with Venice, maybe it is a cliché, but the town has a unique spirit, I was there like 12 times; but I am always full of fascination when I visit.
Most fashionable city?
Rome! It’s full of men with a unique sense for style. I also think that New York City is the men’s style epicenter!
When did you realize your love of fashion and style?
Very early on, and it’s grown every day.
How has social media brought the world closer in your opinion?
For me, the work of social media is crucial, if I want to work internationally, it’s the easiest way to go. My belief is you must stay connected with the right people, to make a self-promotion of your business and to get known in the fashion world.
Social media can make you a Cinderella story; like in my case. I am a boy from an unknown city in an unknown post communistic country somewhere in Eastern Europe. I now work with the most influential opinion leaders through the world :)
Who would you luv to do an illustration of next?
I really appreciate the preppy reinterpretations of Fonzworth Bentley and crazy variations of Cee-Lo Green, once I get in touch with them… they will be next on the “to do list”.
